artist talk: Beyond the Pixel. Navigating the Glitch Between Technology and Society, 2024

18/01/2024 | Artist Talk with Jake Elwes, Mame-Diarra Niang and Kazuma Obara — Pinakothek der Moderne (co-moderation with Dr. Franziska Kunze) as part of the exhibition Glitch. The Art of Interference (01 December 2023 — 17 March 2024) at Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich.

How can we talk about social disorders through images? The use of disruption offers the possibility of bringing to light socio-political conflicts that are simmering just beneath the surface of our easily ruptured social fabric. During the talk the artists Jake Elwes, Mame-Diarra Niang and Kazuma Obara discussed the manifold opportunities of using interference in images. In conversation with Franziska Kunze, curator of the exhibition Glitch. The Art of Interference, and Katrin Bauer, assistant curator, they reflected on their individual artistic strategies whilst addressing topics such as artificial intelligence and gender identity, lock-down and mental health conditions as well as nuclear accidents and radiation illnesses.
