»How can museums, exhibition institutions, and exhibitions function as spaces of democracy? And to what extent can and should cultural institutions go beyond their traditional roles to become agents of social inclusion? The publication’s contributing authors bring together various perspectives on these questions, addressing, among other aspects, the potential for contact and conflict inherent in museums and exhibitions. Artistic and curatorial practice as a form of political intervention is also central to the contributions. In doing so, the volume offers new perspectives on understanding museums and exhibitions as mutable social spaces.«
