With roots in mid-twentieth-century West African studio portraiture, Silvia Rosi’s artistic research has been committed to positioning her family history within a broader diasporic narrative which unfolds in audiovisual diptychs or multilinguistic video installations that address, among other topics, the ambivalent yet empowering oral history embedded in Togo’s rich tradition of wax fabrics, while also speaking to the subversion of the archival canon as a strategy for Togolese agency.
On the occasion of the C/O Berlin Talent Award 2024, the essay »A Throw of Dice«, alongside an interview with Silvia Rosi, appeared in the publication »Protektorat« (2025), in conjunction with the artist’s solo show.
