When Walls Speak. In Conversation with Ilit Azoulay, 2024

When Walls Speak. In Conversation with Ilit Azoulay On How to Address Gaps in Historical Records, in: QUIVID Review 2023, edited by QUIVID Kunst am Bau, Baureferat, Munich, 2024.

An interview with artist Ilit Azoulay on the occasion of »Digital Amnesia or Constructed Memory« (2023), her site-specific work that she developed as part of the refurbishment of Munich‘s historic Maximiliansgymnasium as a commission by the City of Munich Building Department. Conceived as a collaborative one site assemblage, Azoulay’s interactive installation not only confronts viewers with the complexities of historical representation, but also seamlessly encourages them to actively dismantle the school’s hidden pasts, closely linked to auditory and written narratives. With this, »Digital Amnesia or Constructed Memory« brings into view alternate histories through photography and sound, in a bid to preserve a school’s myriad histories.
