In the autumn of 2025, FOTODOKS – the festival for contemporary documentary photography – once again took place in Munich. Under the overarching theme Long Time No See (10.10–02.11.2025) – implying a sense of untold stories collapsing into the present – FOTODOKS 2025 explored the visual poetics of remembering and the renegotiation of the past as a narrational entity within documentary photographic practices. Long Time No See brought together ten international artistic positions in the expanded field of contemporary documentary photography. The group exhibition was punctuated by a three-day accompanying festival programme featuring artist talks, guided tours, performances and workshops.
For the first time, and at the invitation of Architekturgalerie München, FOTODOKS presented its 12th exhibition in a former air raid shelter dating back to 1941 – now serving as a cultural platform in Munich’s city centre that positions itself at the intersection of architecture, photography, and sculpture.
With works by Sander Coers, Arash Fayez, Calvin Hein, Thero Makepe, Edgar Martins, Yun Ping Li, Eva Rivas Bao, Sarah Sullivan, Anya Tsaruk and Eva Vei.
Curated by Frank Bauer, Katrin Bauer (organisational lead), Dominik Gigler, Francesco Giordano, Nadine Loës, Sandra Singh.
